Umrah can be performed at any time of year, but weather, crowd levels and price move together through the twelve months in ways that are worth understanding before you fix your travel dates. The guide below expands on the month cards above with practical detail for pilgrims planning from the UK.
Winter months: comfort and family travel
December, January and February bring the coolest temperatures of the year to Makkah and Madinah, which makes long periods of Tawaf in the open courtyard far more comfortable, particularly for elderly pilgrims or those travelling with young children.
These months also coincide with UK school holidays around Christmas and February half-term, making them popular for family bookings, so we recommend securing hotels several months ahead if travelling in this window.
Spring shoulder season
March and April sit between the cooler winter and the summer heat, offering a reasonable balance of comfortable temperatures and moderate pricing. Crowd levels are generally lower than winter, giving easier access to the Rawdah and shorter queues around the Kaaba.
This period suits pilgrims with flexible schedules who want a calmer experience without committing to the more extreme heat of the summer months.
Summer heat and value pricing
June, July and August bring the highest temperatures of the year, often exceeding 40 degrees during the day, but also some of the lowest package prices outside of the immediate post-Ramadan period. Pilgrims who are comfortable managing heat, staying hydrated and adjusting their Ziyarat schedule to cooler hours often find summer excellent value.
Early morning and late evening are the most practical times for outdoor Ziyarat during these months, and we build itineraries accordingly for summer departures.
Ramadan Umrah
Ramadan carries exceptional spiritual reward and is, for many pilgrims, the most meaningful time to perform Umrah, but it is also the busiest and most expensive period of the entire year, particularly during the Last Ten Nights when the Haram reaches capacity.
We strongly recommend booking Ramadan departures four to six months in advance, since hotel rooms within walking distance of the Haram sell out well before general availability tightens elsewhere.

Autumn and the post-Hajj period
September and October, following the Hajj season, see a noticeable dip in both crowds and prices as the huge Hajj infrastructure winds down and before winter demand builds. This makes autumn one of the best-value windows of the year for pilgrims prioritising affordability alongside reasonable weather.
Flight availability from UK airports is also generally stronger in this period compared with the tightly booked weeks around Ramadan and the summer peak.
Matching your month to your priorities
Pilgrims prioritising the coolest possible weather should look at November through February. Those prioritising the lowest price should consider June, September or early October. Pilgrims seeking the greatest spiritual reward, and willing to accept crowding and higher prices, should plan around Ramadan with generous advance booking.

Flight availability through the year
Direct and one-stop flights from London, Manchester and Birmingham to Jeddah and Madinah run year-round, but seat availability tightens considerably around Ramadan and the summer holidays. Booking flights alongside your package early secures better routing and avoids the higher last-minute fares that airlines apply as departure dates approach.
