A complete guide to booking Umrah from the UK

Umrah is a journey most pilgrims prepare for their entire lives, and the difference between a smooth trip and a stressful one almost always comes down to the travel agency behind it. Noor Al-Haramain Travel has built its entire business around getting the details right for pilgrims travelling from the UK: the right visa route, a hotel that is genuinely close to the Haram, honest pricing, and someone who answers the phone when you actually need them. Whether you are booking your very first Umrah or your tenth, the guidance below explains how our Umrah packages work and what to expect at each stage.

Umrah from the UK, made straightforward

Planning Umrah from the UK involves more moving parts than most people expect: a visa application through the Nusuk platform, flight connections via Jeddah or Madinah, hotel bookings in two different cities, and coordinating everything so it lines up neatly around your working week or school holidays.

Our role is to remove that complexity. When you book any of our Umrah packages, we handle the visa submission, select flights that minimise layovers from London, Manchester, Birmingham and other major UK airports, and confirm hotels in both Makkah and Madinah before you pay your balance.

Visa and the Nusuk platform

Since the Saudi authorities consolidated Umrah entry through the Nusuk platform, the process has become faster but still requires accurate documentation. We collect your passport details, a recent photograph and, where relevant, your meningitis vaccination certificate, then submit everything on your behalf.

Most UK passport holders receive approval within a few working days, though we always recommend applying at least three to four weeks before departure during Ramadan and other peak periods when volumes are higher.

  • Passport valid for at least six months from your return date
  • Recent passport-style photograph on a plain background
  • Meningitis ACWY certificate issued at least ten days before travel
  • Proof of accommodation, which we provide as part of your package

Ihram, rituals and preparing spiritually

Ihram is both a state of spiritual intention and the simple clothing worn to enter it: two unstitched white sheets for men, and modest, loose-fitting clothing in any colour for women. Most pilgrims enter ihram at the miqat point corresponding to their arrival route, and we brief every group beforehand so nobody is unsure when or where to make their intention.

Once in ihram, certain restrictions apply, from avoiding perfume to not cutting hair or nails, and our pre-departure guidance pack talks you through each one clearly, along with the sequence of Tawaf, Sa'i and Halq or Taqsir that completes the Umrah itself.

Hotels close to the Haram

Distance from the Haram matters more than almost any other factor in how comfortable your trip feels, particularly for elderly pilgrims or families with young children. We work directly with hotels in Makkah's Ajyad and Ibrahim Al Khalil districts and Madinah's Central Area, many within a five to ten minute walk of the mosque gates.

Every hotel on our list has been physically inspected by a member of our team, and we publish walking distances honestly rather than relying on marketing claims from the hotel itself.

Ziyarat and the historic sites

Almost every package includes guided Ziyarat, the visiting of historically significant sites connected to the life of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and the early Muslim community. In Makkah this typically covers Jabal al-Noor, Jabal Thawr and the Mina and Arafat plains, while in Madinah it includes Quba Mosque, Qiblatain Mosque and the martyrs of Uhud.

Group packages can also add excursions further afield to Taif or the battlefield of Badr, both of which deepen the historical context of the journey for pilgrims who have more time available.

ATOL protection and how payment works

Any Umrah package that includes flights booked through us is protected under our Air Travel Organiser's Licence, ATOL 11842. This means that in the unlikely event of business failure, your money and your ability to travel or return home are protected by the scheme, and you will receive an ATOL certificate as soon as your deposit is paid.

We ask for a deposit of £250 per person to secure your booking, with the remaining balance due 45 days before departure. We accept card and bank transfer, and group leaders booking multiple rooms can arrange a staged payment plan.

Seasonal pricing across the year

Umrah pricing moves with the Islamic calendar and school holidays rather than the Gregorian year. Ramadan and the weeks either side of it are the most expensive and the busiest, particularly during the Last Ten Nights, while quieter months such as June and September often offer the same hotels and flights for considerably less.

If your dates are flexible, our team can tell you which nearby weeks would meaningfully reduce your total package price without compromising on hotel quality or proximity.

Family, group and accessible travel

Many of our pilgrims travel as multi-generational families or as part of a mosque or community group, and we build packages around that reality rather than treating every booking as a single traveller. Family rooms, adjoining rooms and children's meal options can all be arranged, and group leaders benefit from discounted rates once numbers pass fifteen pilgrims.

For pilgrims who need wheelchair assistance, we arrange airport support, accessible hotel rooms wherever the hotel offers them, and slower-paced Ziyarat itineraries so nobody feels rushed through the holy sites.
